Bum Covered Diapers: KnickerNappies Review & Giveaway

Bum Covered Diapers is a small family run cloth diapering store.
They are dedicated to selling high quality products that they love and used on their own baby.
They offer brands such as Melissa & Doug, Planet Wise,
Apple Cheeks and you can also build your own fitted diaper!

Bum Covered Diapers recently sent me
my first KnickerNappies diaper with Loopy Do inserts for review.

I have been wanting to try KnickerNappies
but always change my mind when it comes time spend my fluff money.
I tend to buy used diapers but it's hard to find used KnickerNappies.
Now I think I know why. (They are too good to get rid of.)

KnickerNappies are a One-Size Pocket diaper.
They can fit a baby from 8lbs all the way up to 40lbs!
That's amazing.
Lillian is currently at 32lbs and showing no signs of PL'ing soon.
So finding a diaper that fits her in the future has been a concern of mine.
It has a very generous rise and cross over wings, that made the fit on Lillian superb.

The KnickerNappies diaper came with two Loopy Do inserts, a small and a large.
They are made from a combination of microfiber and hemp.
The hemp being hidden on the inside of each insert.
These inserts were the most absorbent I have ever came across.
I left Lillian in KnickerNappies for a very lengthy amount of time, with only the large insert.
Not one drop leaked.
Even after sitting in her car seat, where she has the majority of her leak issues,
she still remained dry.
The insert was soaked when I took it out of the diaper.
I am amazed at how much urine that one insert was able to hold!

I love the insert opening of the KnickerNappies.
it is located at the very back of the diaper, near the elastic waist.
When Lillian and Olivia wore this diaper, they both "broke it in",
and I had no worries about trying to clean poo out of the insert or opening.
My husband also liked the fact that it was big enough for his hand.
He doesn't usually stuff diapers but sometimes her has no other option.
He had the opportunity of stuffing the KnickerNappies
and he commented on how easy it was in comparison to some of our other diapers.

My 32lb 2yr old in (on the largest setting ) KnickerNappies
 The fit was great!
It wasn't as trim as I usually prefer but the bulk wasn't that bad.
It was easy enough to get a pair of jeans over when Lillian was wearing it.
My 14+lb 11wk old in the (on smallest setting) KnickerNappies

The fit on Olivia was great as well.
No gaps around the waist. Not too tight around the thighs.
Nice fluffy tush! ;)
I had it on the lowest setting and the rise was perfect.
As I have mentioned in other reviews, She is a quite the chunk.
She has an odd shape like her mama.
Short and Chunky.
Most OS diapers fit her odd, but the KnickerNappies was an exception to the rule.

I only have one minor dislike.
I am not a fan of side snaps.
But other than that no complaints about KnickerNappies!
I love this diaper!

CLOSED*Smart Bottoms Review & Giveaway*CLOSED

Smart Bottoms is the first company of it's kind. Not only do they make cloth diapers and accessories but they also offer them through home based parties.
I wish I would have known about Smart Bottoms a year ago.
Before I was contacted by Smart Bottoms I had no idea
that there was a company that would come to your house and show you their product.
I have been to many in-home parties.. candle parties,
Tupperware parties, home decor parties.. but I never knew about cloth diaper parties.
When I first learned about cloth diapering,
my only cloth diapering friend lived hundreds of miles away!
I asked her a million questions, night and day, because I was so confused, baffled and curious about how cloth diapering worked.
{ Thank you L.W. for being so helpful! ;) }

Smart Bottoms is there for the 95% of parents who chose to use disposables.
Some of which are like me.. Knowing zilch about cloth.
I didn't even know I had a choice.
When you first become pregnant.. you know you have several choices;
To breastfeed or bottle feed, to stay at home or go back to work,
to co-sleep or to start off in a crib.
But NO ONE EVER GAVE ME A CHOICE WHEN IT CAME TO MY BABY'S BOTTOM!
Smart Bottoms knows that behind every cloth diapering mom (and dad) there is a story.
A story why they chose to use cloth.

Christy at Smart Bottoms wanted to have a diaper party at my house,
but unfortunately certain circumstances won't allow.
So she so generously sent me two diapers for review.

For Lillian she sent me a large Smart Fold and Smart Cover.

This was my first time using a prefold.
I have used some old hand-me down prefolds as a doubler but never alone.
Immediately I could tell this Smart Fold was a heavy duty diaper!
It was thick, heavy and Oh my gosh SOFT.
Their Smart Cover is a PUL cover with a jersey interior.
They come in two adjustable sizes, to fit as small as 5lbs and 30lbs plus.
The Smart cover had a hip snap which I have never encountered before.

I loved the fit on her.
Even with the thickness of the Smart fold inside the cover, it was still nice and trim.
The rise was high enough in the back to cover her big bottom
(She has her daddy's big booty. lol) but nice and low in the front.
I chose to give it the ultimate of tests.. OVERNIGHT!
Lillian is a very heavy wetter, not a lot of diapers can hold up to the overnight test!
But I had my confidence in this one and it proved me right!
The next morning, Lillian's pajamas were completely dry.
She didn't even have that horrible overnight ammonia smell.
I was impressed!
When I took the diaper off I did notice that the
Smart fold was bunched up in the front.. but it still didn't leak.

For Olivia, Smart Bottoms sent me a small Smart One.
I love the inner lining made of 100% organic cotton and hemp fleece.
It was ultra soft, something I know would feel nice against my baby's bottom!
(Who can say that about a sposie?)

It was super easy to use.. Just Snap it on.. No stuffing or pinning.
Olivia wore it for about 2.5hours and we had zero leaks.
She even had an infamous BF blowout and the Smart One contained it all!
My only dislike was that it left red marks on her waist and thighs,
but Olivia is quite the chunky monkey.. She needs the next size up.

I love Smart Bottoms.
I have finally found a nighttime solution of Lillian.
They also make a Smart Insert, Smart Wipes,
Smart Liner and a Smart Bag that I really want to try!

CLOSED*The Pink Polka Dot Boutique Review & Giveaway*CLOSED

I'd like to tell you about my best friend, "B"
I met my best friend over two years ago at my baby shower
and I knew immediately that we would have a great bond.
"B" is always there for me when I need her, she'll do all that I ask her to do,
she's supportive and durable, I take her almost everywhere I go.
Not only do I love and adore "B" but
my whole family does too.

Who is my best friend you may ask?
My Boppy nursing pillow!

Yes, That's right.
I love my Boppy.

"B" is so much more than a nursing pillow.
As a nursing mother I have depended on my "B" for so much.
Plus She's a neck pillow for my hubby, She's a T.V watching prop for my oldest daughter
and She's a floor pillow for my youngest.
And even a lap prop for when I'm laying in bed reading a book or studying the bible.

Recently though I've noticed how drab she's been looking.
She really needed a makeover, like most hard working women do.
;)

She makes Boppy covers, burp cloths and more.

I love her selection of fabric choices.
There are so many to choose from!

The Pink Polka Dot Boutique sent me a nursing pillow cover and 5 burp cloths.
Burp cloths around here are like precious gems.
Olivia has G.E.R.D. and spits up a lot.

I love it.
The cover is a thick, soft flannel material with
multi-colored diamonds and polka dots!
It fits so snug over my Boppy!

The Pink Polka Dots Boutique nursing pillow covers are constructed like a pillow case,
with an opening in the back.
This does make it a bit more difficult to put on compared to ones with zippers.
But it was so worth the extra effort.

The beautiful burp cloths she sent me where made
of various girly prints in the same soft flannel fabric.
I even had one that matched my Boppy cover.
They were small enough to fit over my shoulder but big enough to catch the spit ups.
Although Olivia usually spits-up in large amounts,
so I did have some problems with spit-up on my shoulder.
But the burp cloths caught it for the majority.

Finally "B" got a makeover and is looking brand new!
I even got a compliment on my matching burp cloth
and Boppy cover the first time I took them out and about.

I wish I would have found The Pink Polka Dot Boutique earlier.
But you know what they say "Better late than never.

Would you like The Pink Polka Dot Boutique to makeover your nursing pillow?

BUY:
and she can make you a cover from the wide selection of prints!
Cover prices range from $6.99 to $13.99 depending on fabric.
Burp cloths are $1.99, what a steal!
Use code:10PERCENT and recieve 10% discount for reading this review.

WIN:
The Pink Polka Dot Boutique wants to giveaway a beautiful nursing cover and burp cloth set.

This Black and Damask nursing cover with 4 complimentary burp cloths
are very gender neutral and are sure to get compliments from all!

CLOSED*Dream Makers Design Review & Giveaway*CLOSED

Dream Maker Design recently sent me one their for review.
It is the cutest thing, pink with a darling little Minnie Mouse on the bum.
Dream Makers Designs diapers are made of a very thick absorbent terry cloth, with a layer of hidden PUL inside, they are also lined in a nice soft flannel.
The legs and waist are elastic making a great fit, especially in my little chunkster.
They have a thick aplix which provide a strong secure closure.
Dream Makers Diapers are an All-In-One, perfect for those daddy's who seem terrified of anything extra.

The Dream Makers diaper I received was a small and it fit Olivia like a glove.
Perfectly. Not too snug around her belly or tight around her thick thighs.
It was just right. The rise fit right below the naval and covered her tush nicely.
The cute little Minnie Mouse applique on her bum was too adorable to cover up!

I tend to be impatient when it comes to prepping, even though I know majority of diapers don't reach their maximum absorbency until washed and dried several times.
This time was no exception.
The first time Olivia wore this diaper I did have a leak around the left thigh.
(I had only washed it once.)
But after I washed it 2 more times,
I could tell a huge difference in the amount of urine it was able to hold.
She has worn this diaper several times since and had no more issues.

My have two dislike about this diaper.
First is that it takes a bit longer than most AIO's to dry.
I like to hang dry my diapers, but after a full day of line drying this one was still damp.
A quick toss in the dryer took care of that!

My second dislike is that there are no fold-in wash tabs.
I am not crazy about aplix, especially when we have a velcro train in the washing machine.
You know what I mean, right?
The velcro get stuck to anything and everything it touches.
Which is a huge pain in the you-know-what!
If you turn the diaper around and flip it over,
you can fasten the velcro to the front of the diaper.
It is a little inconvenient but it does prevent
he velcro chain when there are no laundry tabs

But other than those minor complaints, I love this diaper.
Very well made!

Dream Makers Designs not only make a great diaper
but they have a HUGE line of handmade items.
Such as: Nursing Pads, Car seat covers, Clothing, Bibs, Wipe Case covers... and so much more.

Look at some of Dream Makers' work!

They also have the LARGEST fabric selection I have ever seen!
It's amazing.

The Ugly Truth

Before I chose to switch to cloth diapers , I never knew the facts
I never once thought about where that diaper would go when I tossed it in the garbage.
It never crossed my mind that there were chemicals in my baby's diapers.
I was ignorant and naive, like so many other parents out there.
So when I learned the ugly truth about disposables.. I knew I had to make a change.
I take what the bible says seriously and
Rev 11:18 mentions that God will "bring to ruin those ruining the earth."

Here are some gruesome and thought provoking facts to consider
Even if you no longer have a child in diapers, You too can help spread the word!

HEALTH:

Disposable diapers contain the super absorbent chemical, sodium polyacrylate, which has been linked to toxic shock syndrome. That same chemical was removed from tampons in 1985.

Disposable diapers contain Dioxin, an extremely toxic by-product of the paper-bleaching process. It is a carcinogenic chemical, listed by the EPA as the most toxic of all cancer-linked chemicals. It has been banned in most countries, but not the U.S

Disposable diapers contain Tributyl-tin (TBT) - a toxic pollutant known to cause hormonal problems in humans and animals.2

In May 2000, the Archives of Disease in Childhood published research showing that scrotal temperature is increased in boys wearing disposable diapers, and that prolonged use of disposable diapers will blunt or completely abolish the physiological testicular cooling mechanism important for normal spermatogenesis.

ENVIRONMENT:

The instructions on a disposable diaper package advice that all fecal matter should be deposited in the toilet before discarding, yet less than one half of one percent of all waste from single-use diapers goes into the sewage system.

Each SINGLE diaper can take approx. 500 years to decompose.

Over 92% of all single-use diapers end up in a landfill.

27,400,000,000 disposable diapers are hauled off to landfills each year.

Each Child that is put in disposable diapers will use an average of 9000 diapers before potty learning.

Disposable diapers are the third largest single consumer item in landfills,
and represent about 4% of solid waste.
In a house with a child in diapers, disposables make up 50% of household waste.

Disposable diapers generate sixty times more solid waste
and use twenty times more raw materials, like crude oil and wood pulp.

DRYNESS AND RASH:

The most common reason for diaper rash
is excessive moisture against the skin.

Disposable diapers can hold about 7 pounds of fluid. YUCK!

At least half of all babies will exhibit rash at least once during their diapering years.

Diaper rash was almost unheard of before the 1940s.

The manufacture and use of disposable diapers amounts
to 2.3 times more water wasted than cloth.

Over 300 pounds of wood, 50 pounds of petroleum feedstocks
and 20 pounds of chlorine are used to produce
disposable diapers for one baby EACH YEAR.

In 1991, an attempt towards recycling
disposable diapers was made in the city of Seattle,
involving 800 families, 30 day care centers, a hospital
and a Seattle-based recycler for a period of one year.
The conclusion made by Procter & Gamble was that
recycling disposable diapers was not
an economically feasible task on any scale.17

COST:

We estimate that each baby will need
about 6,000 diapers during the first two years of life.
A pack of a top brand disposable diapers (160 count)
Runs on average $43.
If a baby goes through an average of 10 diaper a day..
a huge box like that can last about 16 days!
So that's about $0.25 a diaper.
Might not seem like much but multiply that by 6,000!
$1,500 on ONE BABY!

A stash of Cloth diaper can range from 100-500
depending on the brand, style, etc.

See this great chart of costs: Disposables -vs- Cloth diapers
HERE

With all these FACTS!
Why would you NOT choose cloth?!?!

Would you knowing & willingly put harmful chemicals on your baby?
Would you flush money down the toilet, on purpose?

Any loving parent would say "NO".

Why not make the smart choice and choose cloth?

New You 2011: Week 3

To say I had bad week would be an understatement.
I struggled a lot.
I am an emotional eater and lets just say I have been an emotional wreck.

The only thing I can do is to pick myself up off the floor
ans keep on going.
This is a long road.. There's no giving up!

I started out 221.
Last week I weighed 218.
this week I stayed the same.

Yes I know No weight gained.
But I did horrible.
I snacked, I ate out.. I indulged in the worst foods imaginable.

I have goals and expectations for myself and I am disappointed.
I pray that I can have a better update this time next week.
